Goodbye!!! – Sweet Static: My Farewell Post

The person behind the page: My name is Charlotte, and I’m a 22-year-old senior Music Industry major at SUNY Fredonia! As I prepare to graduate, it is finally time to bring my reviews to a close.

This website was created for my Social Media Practicum course, where each student was responsible for managing their own website about whatever they wanted. As someone who loves music and the industry, I chose to post music reviews, focusing specifically on pop music.

Pop music has always been my favorite genre, especially music performed by women! Looking back, I realized that, by accident, I only reviewed female musicians. They just tend to resonate with me the most.

Working on this website has truly been so much fun. Not only did I get to listen to a few tracks that I already knew I liked, but I discovered so much new pop music, and so many talented artists that had never graced my ears until now.

My favorites from this semester: After almost five months of music reviews, I’ve decided to finally reveal which artists, albums, and songs were my favorites from this semester.

I’ll give my top three for each.

Artists: This is such a hard choice.

  1. ADÉLA: I haven’t been able to stop listening to her. I fell in love with her craft so much, I purchased a signed KGB vinyl record when it was released (yes, I have a record player, no, I’m not a poser).
  2. SLAYYYTER: I loved how even her “slower” songs still weren’t slow. She gave me exactly what I wanted.
  3. KATSEYE: I’m someone who is a bit less lyric-focused and has more of an appreciation for a great beat, and their music is just so much fun. Plus, if you’ve never seen them dance, you must go watch a video.

Albums:

  1. WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA: This album was loud, girly, upbeat, and everything I want in an album. The vibe was consistent throughout this album, but every song still had its own sound.
  2. Preacher’s Daughter: This album was a bit slower for my taste, but told a story so beautifully that I just can’t ignore it. This album was so beautifully done.
  3. The Provocateur: I loved every single song on this EP, but I won’t give it the first or second spot considering its only an EP rather than a full album. However, to me, it’s perfect.

Songs:

  1. Superscar – ADÉLA: Can you tell I like ADÉLA? Seriously, she’s so talented. Since I heard this song, it hasn’t stopped playing in my earbuds.
  2. CRANK – Slayyyter: You’re definitely noticing a theme by now. I just love loud and girly music, and this song is definitely loud. I LOVE great production, and this song has just that.
  3. Homewrecked – ADÉLA: Okay but for real, go watch videos of her performing this live. I could immediately feel Ariana Grande’s influence in how she performs this song, and it gives me chills EVERY SINGLE TIME without fail.

Before I close out this post, I’d like to thank y’all for keeping up with my reviews over the past few months and for supporting my website and social media pages. Who knows, maybe I’ll pick this back up someday!

This has truly been such a fun experience! Thank you again for all of your support. See y’all soon!
