COUNTDOWN TO COACHELLA: Every day this week leading up to Coachella weekend one, I’ll be reviewing an album from a performer at this year’s festival. At the end of the week, on the first day of the event, I’ll be releasing a review for an album by one of the headliners! Stay tuned to find out who I’m reviewing this week!
About the artist: PinkPantheress is a British singer, songwriter, and producer. She rose to fame in 2020 through TikTok, as her self-produced tracks such as “Break It Off” and “Pain” rapidly drew attention. PinkPantheress was named Producer of the Year by Billboard Women in Music in 2024, and, in 2026, she became the youngest recipient in Brit Awards history to win Producer of the Year.
About the album: Fancy That is PinkPatheress’ second mixtape, released on May 9, 2025, through Warner Records.
Reviews:
Album cover: I really like this cover! I’ve been a casual fan of PinkPatheress for a minute now, and I think this cover is just so HER. I think this cover captures her vibe perfectly, and I think it’s really cute.
I give this cover a 9/10!
Songs:
Illegal: Right off the bat, it becomes clear why PinkPantheress won Producer of the Year. The production on this song feels quite simple as it repeats throughout the track, yet it’s still so powerful and really makes the song. I also love the lyrics, this song is just so girly to me.
It’s obvious why this tune went viral on TikTok. I give “Illegal” a 10/10. I really do love this one.
Girl Like Me: This song, like the last, immediately hits you with production that makes you want to get up and dance. If I heard this song at a club, I’d be out of my seat so fast. I also love the voice effects she uses in her music; it’s a small touch that adds so much to this song.
This song is about a faltering relationship, as she expresses her dissatisfaction through her lyrics. Her ability to blend contemplative lyrics with an upbeat sound like this is incredible. I give this one an 8/10.
Tonight: This song samples Panic! at the Disco’s song “Do You Know What I’m Seeing.” I love how she uses some of the orchestral arrangements from that piece, and I love the nostalgic touch it gives to this song. This is another song I’d love to hear in a club, but it’s a bit more low-key than the previous one.
This song feels simple, but once again, it’s so fun. I give “Tonight” a 7/10.
Stars: I know I keep mentioning it, but her production really is exciting to listen to. This song samples Just Jack’s 2006 hit “Starz In Their Eyes”, giving it that UK early 2000s touch. As I listen to this album, PinkPantheress’ individual production style really starts to show, especially with this song.
I give “Stars” an 8/10!
Intermission: No lyrics, just a short 24-second tune displaying her production skills. I do like how this one transitions with the other pieces. I’ll give this little intermission an 8/10.
Noises: This track has a paranoid, uneasy theme to it, but it really works. There aren’t many lyrics in this one, but the nostalgic beat makes it a fun listen. I’m someone who focuses less on lyrics and more on the beat of a song, so I really like this one.
I give “Noises” an 8/10.
Nice to Know You: According to PinkPantheress, this piece was a last-minute addition to this album. Despite being created in a rush, this song stands out with a slightly different, almost romantic sound to it. It’s amazing to hear what she can come up with in a pinch.
The production on this song is exactly what I look for when listening to music on my own time. I also love hearing her talk with her beautiful accent. I give “Nice to Know You” a 10/10.
Stateside: This is another one that went viral on TikTok, also for good reason. The production on this song is sooo sick, she’s just so talented. This song combines her amazing production, cool voice effects, her lyricism, and her beautiful voice.
This song literally has everything it needs. “Stateside” is a 10/10 for me.
Romeo: I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t huge into this one until I reached the chorus. I love the production once again, but the lyrics (regarding unreciprocated love) just aren’t to my taste. However, this song is still a nice display of her talents.
Though the lyrics aren’t my favorite, I can’t deny the production of this song. I give “Romeo” a 7/10.
OVERALL RATING: 8.4/10
As someone who judges songs based on production over lyrics, I really loved this album. PinkPantheress is so incredibly talented, and deserves her title of youngest Producer of the Year winner. I’m really glad I gave this album a listen, I’ll definitely be streaming this one again.
